Let us pray – Creator and Sovereign Lord God,
· As we gather in honor of two of our greatest Presidents, we pause to recall several of their words of wisdom:
· Abraham Lincoln who stated – “A House divided against itself cannot stand” (quoting from the Bible)
· And Ronald Reagan who said (repeating his State Chairman) “Remember the 11th commandment – ‘Never speak ill against a fellow Republican.’” Help us to remember and live by these sayings.
· Our Nation is currently in a very contentious and divided situation – Help us to shine forth the light of positive Leadership, being part of the solutions and not the problems as Citizens of a free and deliberative Society.
· As we are enjoying fellowship and food this evening – we are acutely aware that there are millions of our fellow human beings who are not experiencing these blessings – those enduring the catastrophic earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, the many in war torn Ukraine, countless others dealing with unsafe, inhumane conditions on our Southern Border – Even in our prosperous State and City there are those who struggle with the high cost of the necessities of life – food, clothing and shelter – and yes even personal safety.
· May we leave this evening resolved to help extend the blessings of peace and prosperity, that we enjoy, to everyone in our City and State. Protect those in our armed forces who stand watch and all the first-time responders.
